'Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog' was the first Sonic cartoon to emerge in September 1993. In comparison to the cartoons that followed (Sonic the Hedgehog SatAM and Sonic Underground), it takes a more slapstick approach towards the hedgehog and his friends. It is obviously intended to be a strictly, children-based cartoon show and not family-based. Although many old Sonic fans have fond memories of the show, it hasn't dated very well as it shows a lot of cartoon clichés and corny humour.
Character Profiles Sonic the Hedgehog The main character of the show who always got out of stupidly set-up traps by Robotnik and showed up the Super Sonic Search and Smash Squad every time (because they were so stupid!) Miles 'Tails' Prower Sonic's best friend who tries to be as fast as Sonic. He seemed to get captured a lot but that's just one of the many clichés that appears throughout the entire series! Dr. Ivo Robotnik Supposedly an evil genius but everything he schemed never seemed that clever! Creator of the Super Sonic Search and Smash Squad. He also created 2 robots that the befriended him, Robotnik Jr. and Breezie. Scratch Robotnik's first creation and the lead member of the Super Sonic Search and Smash Squad. He is very stupid but nowhere near as bad as Grounder. Grounder Robotnik's second creation and Scratch's twin (even though they don't look anything alike because Scratch pulled the wrong lever when creating him). He has loads of gadgets up his sleeve but he is incredibly dumb! He is dependent on outsmarting Scratch. Coconuts Another one of Robotnik's robots who always ends up worse off, even though Scratch and Grounder are a lot more idiotic than him. He is very arrogant and tries to be better than everyone. Breezie Another robot of Robotnik's, she was created so Sonic would fall in love with her, making him vulnerable to being destroyed. But Breezie couldn't bring herself to destroying Sonic so she joined the freedom fighters. A Shout! producer announced that Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog is in production. Amazon has a preorder up and a release date of July 17, 2007. Release Information for the United Kingdom In the UK, there were about 10 tapes released; Volumes 1 to 6 (except Volume 5 which is Quest for the Chaos Emeralds, a 4 parter edited without the title cards) had 3 episodes per tape, High Stakes Sonic/Sonic Breakout and Momma Robotnik's Birthday tapes had 2 episodes each. Also there was a bumper tape released that was roughly 3 hours long. None of the UK videos had the Sonic Says segments included except the episode High Stakes Sonic. It is worth noting that one of these UK videos had four different versions. All of these four had the episode "Sonic Breakout in it." However, in one the other episode was "High Stakes Sonic." In another it was "Slowwww Going" and the final version had all three of these episodes. Also there was a tape with just the Sonic Breakout episode. Release Information for France Also in France there were a few VHS releases by Sony Music. Release Information for Korea There is a DVD release in Korea with the first 12 episodes. However this show is not currently available on DVD in the Western markets, with the exception of the "Sonic Christmas Blast" DVD which included the episode "Sonic Christmas Blast." The remaining episodes, however, were that of the Sonic Underground cartoon. |

This was the second series of Sonic cartoons to be released and easily the most popular amongst Sonic fans. This time, the creators decided to take a darker approach to the Sonic story. Robotnik was actually quite scary (well, from a child's point of view) and was convincingly evil! He had a stupid right hand man named Snively and was constantly trying to kill the freedom fighters and capture Princess Sally.
Character Profiles Sonic the Hedgehog Obviously the main character to the story and the leader of the freedom fighters. Sonic came across many challeges in trying to stop Robotnik and sometimes got stuck in situations you thought he would die in! He was a lot more appealing than in Aosth, with a lot more attidude which made him more interesting to watch than the comic, silly and overly ignorant Sonic in Aosth. Princess Sally The princess of Mobius who joined the freedom fighters to stop Robotnik from destroying the planet and to descover any information she can on her lost father. She is always trying to gain Sonic's affection, but Sonic is so full of himself she often feels like giving up! She has a hand-held computer called Nicole which she constantly refers to for more information. Nicole The hand-held computer Sally uses. It contains information on everything about Mobius and a handy system to crack codes! It is the main source of information Sally needs but it has no A.I. so in some situations it doesn't understand what Sally is talking about! Bunnie Rabbot Another member of the freedom fighters. She is bionically enhanced making her the strongest of the freedom fighters. Because she is so strong she acts more brash than the other characters which results in her getting captured (a lot)! Rotor (Boomer) The mechanic of the freedom fighters. He can fix or construct anything. He has a closet of spare pieces he has gathered on his adventures with Sonic. He is a bit stupid but he hardly puts himself in any danger so you can't blame him! Antoine D'Coolette The coward of the freedom fighters! Antoine is always trying to win the affection of Princess Sally by acting brave but often fails due to his cowardice. Antoine served the Royal Guard before Dr. Robotnik came into powerk, which justifies his inclusion in the Freedom Fighters. Miles 'Tails' Prower Tails seems a lot younger in SatAM than Aosth. He is very shy, immature and can be a bit of a baby sometimes! But he does appear useful on occasion thanks to his ability to fly. Strangly, he doesn't appear in the series very often, which is odd for a main character like himself. Dr. Ivo Robotnik SatAM Robotnik is a lot more scary and evil than in Aosth; it's as if he has been animated by Todd McFarlane! He is always scheming new ways to roboticize the civilians of Mobius and destroy everything natural! But thanks to Sonic he always fails and blames it on his right-hand man Snively. However, this was pulled when Buena Vista claimed to have distribution rights to the series. The five episodes that were on this disc, all from Season 1, were: 1. Super Sonic 2. Sonic Racer 3. Sonic Boom 4. Sonic and Sally 5. Sonic and The Secret Scrolls The Complete Series (2007) It was thought that the Super Sonic DVD would be the show's lone DVD release. However, a Boxset entitled Sonic The Hedgehog: The Complete Series was released by Shout! Factory on March 27, 2007. There are bonus features spread out on all four discs: storyboards, concept art, storyboard-to-screen comparisons, deleted/extended scenes, a printable script of the series pilot (Heads or Tails), and interviews with Jaleel White and head writer Ben Hurst. The individual cases and the DVDs themselves also feature fan art submitted to Shout! Factory during the box set's development phase. IMAGES Click the thumbnails for larger images. Release Information for the United Kingdom A box set is currently planned for the UK even though the complete series boxset that was released in the US was region free. Release Information for Korea A box set of the first 12 episodes has been released in Korea. |

And now onto the 3rd series of Sonic cartoons; Sonic Underground. This series of cartoons followed Sonic, his brother Manic and his sister Sonia on their quest to find their mother Queen Aleena who abandoned them as children for their own protection. Sonic Underground put a whole new spin on the Sonic story and has earned itself another big fan-base.
Character Profiles Sonic the Hedgehog Our courageous (and talented musician) Sonic is back as the guitar-wielding frontman of the group 'Sonic Underground'. Hasty as ever, Sonic's ultimate goal is to find his mother. Manic the Hedgehog Sonic's brother Manic is the 'cool guy' of the group and (amazingly) more of a hot-head than Sonic! His rash decisions result in him being in a lot of trouble most of the time, but still has the same goal as Sonic and means well. His instrument is the drums. Sonia the Hedgehog A very feisty and independent character, Sonia is Sonic's sister and thinks the most logically out of the three. Her instrument is the keyboard. Dr. Ivo Robotnik Robotnik returns to annoy Sonic as much as possible with his new mission; to take over Mobius and marry Sonic Underground's mother, Queen Aleena. Is there nothing Robotnik won't do to annoy our hero? Sleet and Dingo The two henchmen Sleet and Dingo work for Robotnik to help him with his ultimate goal. Unfortunately (and quite obviously) they are a pair of complete idiots and couldn't complete a simple mission if their life depended on it!
